Overview

About Natchez Trace Parkway Northern Terminus

Why stop

  • A clear visual starting point for a full Parkway drive

Heads up

  • Unassuming roadside setting with little to do beyond the entrance view
This is the north end of the Parkway, the point where the drive either starts or finishes depending on which way you are pointed. There is no grand gateway arch and no visitor complex. What you get is a bookend for a long scenic drive, which matters more than it sounds if you are about to spend days heading south or have just finished doing so. Treat it as a quick marker stop and photo, not a destination in itself.

The honest shot here is the entrance sign with the overpass behind it, framed from the roadside approach. Everything happens at driving speed on a working highway junction, so plan your angle before you slow down and keep your stop short. Early or late light softens what is otherwise a fairly plain stretch of pavement.

“You're nearing the Natchez Trace Parkway's northern end at Highway 100, with the Loveless Cafe just east of it. The terminus itself is a sign and ramp, a simple bookend to the drive rather than a visitor complex.”

More about Natchez Trace Parkway Northern Terminus

What you actually seeA two-lane road, an overpass, and a directional sign pointing you onto the Parkway ramp.

A two-lane road, an overpass, and a directional sign pointing you onto the Parkway ramp. The Parkway crosses over Highway 100 here, so the setting is a road junction rather than an overlook. The only amenity officially listed for this spot is a scenic view and photo spot, and that is an accurate description of the experience. Elevation is around 659 feet, so nothing dramatic in terms of terrain.

How it differs from other Parkway stopsMost named stops along the route give you a trail, a historic site, or a pull-in overlook.

Most named stops along the route give you a trail, a historic site, or a pull-in overlook. This one gives you the transition itself: ordinary Tennessee highway on one side, the managed scenic corridor on the other. If you are collecting the full length of the road, this is the spot that makes the start or finish official.

Finding itThe Parkway meets Highway 100 about 17 miles southwest of downtown Nashville.

The Parkway meets Highway 100 about 17 miles southwest of downtown Nashville. Coming from I-40, take exit 192 for McCrory Lane and continue roughly 5 miles to the Parkway entrance. Navigate by the Highway 100 and McCrory Lane junction rather than by milepost. Official material calls this milepost 444-ish, while the last marker you will actually see on the ground reads 442.0 and route guides list 442.1. The road continues a short distance past that final marker to the Highway 100 connection, which explains the gap. Do not waste time hunting for a 444 sign.

Honest drawbacksVisually unassuming.
  • Visually unassuming. If you are not personally invested in starting or finishing the whole route, you can skip it without regret.
  • Nothing to do beyond the entrance view. Assume no services at the terminus itself and plan stops elsewhere.
  • The shops sitting just east along Highway 100 are separate businesses, not part of this place, so do not count on them when planning your stop.
