Overview

About The Loveless Cafe

Why stop

  • 1951 roadside history and distinctive neon sign
  • Scratch-made Southern cooking with on-site Hams & Jams shops

Heads up

  • Dine-in waits can be long when the cafe is busy
This is a meal stop near the northern end of the parkway, at 8400 TN-100 in Nashville. The restaurant has been feeding travelers on Highway 100 since 1951, when Lon and Annie Loveless began serving made-from-scratch fried chicken and biscuits out of their own home. A neon Loveless Cafe sign stands at the front of the property along the highway. Note that it is a private business, not an NPS facility, so it operates on its own terms.

Best time to go

The wait is the biggest variable in a visit here. Crowds and wait times vary, and waits are sometimes long. Anyone driving the parkway on a tight schedule should allow extra time for the possibility of a long hold before being seated, or consider takeout instead.

“You're nearing the Natchez Trace Parkway's northern end at Highway 100, with the Loveless Cafe just east of it. The terminus itself is a sign and ramp, a simple bookend to the drive rather than a visitor complex.”

Honest drawbacksTreat this as a destination restaurant, not a quick pull-off.

Treat this as a destination restaurant, not a quick pull-off. If you want a fast bite and a short stop, the odds are against you. The setting is a roadside property along a busy highway, so the draw is the food, the history, and the shops rather than the surroundings. Build the stop into your plan and give it real time.
