Lyndhurst Village is a one-mile walk from Lyndhurst Car Park: first a short loop west along the High Street to St Michael and All Angels, then an out-and-back east to Bolton’s Bench and back to the car park. Allow about an hour. It’s a gentle village stroll for churchyard history and a view across the open forest.

Pass the Heritage Centre and follow the High Street west to St Michael and All Angels, where Alice Liddell, the inspiration for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is buried. Return toward the Stag Hotel, then continue east past the Ferrari garage. Two pedestrian crossings lead toward the open forest. Pavement gives way to grass, with benches on the approach to a gate; beyond it, cross to the road that runs up past Bolton’s Bench. The route reaches the approach road with the yew-topped rise ahead; you don’t need to climb the hill to do this walk. Retrace the eastern approach to Lyndhurst.

Parking and poniesStart at Lyndhurst Car Park, beside the New Forest Heritage Centre.

Start at Lyndhurst Car Park, beside the New Forest Heritage Centre. It has ten accessible bays and easy-access toilets; pubs, restaurants and coffee houses are on the High Street. The walk is labelled accessible, but grass underfoot and two road crossings may not suit every visitor or mobility aid. Ponies graze near Bolton’s Bench: keep your distance, don’t feed them or eat close to them. Dogs are allowed; keep them under close control and on a lead along roads.
