On the Water

Channels here can run skinny. Idle out, mind your track, and trim up in the shallows to avoid scarring seagrass. You’re launching into waters within/near Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge, with idle‑speed and no‑motor zones scattered around the Bay Keys and Lower Harbor Keys—study the chart before you go and respect the signs.

Wildlife

This is classic Lower Keys backcountry: expect great white herons, ospreys, and other wading birds overhead. Bottlenose dolphins are frequent visitors, with occasional manatees and sea turtles cruising the shallows. Move slow, give animals space, and enjoy the show.

Best Time to Visit

Early mornings on calm weekdays are your friend—both for parking and for glassy water on the flats. Weekends and blue‑sky days fill the tiny lot fast. Sunrise and late‑day light are nicest for bird activity and photos; midday wind makes skinny water trickier.
