Kaluđerovac Lake Viewpoint

Overview

Perched on the eastern rim above the Lower Lakes, this viewpoint strings together several classic overlooks where turquoise pools, tufa cascades, and wooden boardwalks line up beneath you. It’s the postcard angle toward Veliki Slap (Croatia’s tallest waterfall at 78 m) and Sastavci, with Kaluđerovac sitting center‑stage in the canyon.

What You’ll See

• Layered limestone canyon, vivid lakes, and constant curtains of water shaped by growing tufa barriers.
• Kaluđerovac’s setting below you, with boardwalks threading the shoreline; nearby lies Šupljara Cave, part of the limestone system that helped carve this canyon.
• Big‑picture vistas and tighter frames as you move between adjacent signed lookouts along the rim.

Getting There

Start at Entrance 1 and follow the green‑coded Lower Lakes circuits (Program A or B). You’ll descend to the boardwalks, then climb short stair sections to reach the rim viewpoints. Trails are well marked; expect some grades and wet spots from waterfall mist.

Best Time to Visit

Aim for early morning for soft, frontal light over the Lower Lakes and fewer people. Park hours vary by season (typically around 7:00 in summer and 8:00 in winter). Mid‑morning to early afternoon is the busiest window; late day also calms down and brings warm side‑light.

Photo Tips

• Stop at multiple rim pullouts—the angle to Veliki Slap and the chain of lakes shifts every few minutes of walking.
• Bring a lens cloth; spray and mist are common. Move with patience—narrow paths clog when everyone pauses to shoot.

Practicalities

There are no toilets or food at the rim overlooks. Restrooms, snacks, and info points are at the entrances and at main boat/shuttle hubs inside the park (P3 electric boat; St1–St3 panoramic train). Buy tickets online at least two days ahead; your first entry is tied to a specific gate and time, with entry allowed 30 minutes before to 1 hour after the time on your ticket. In winter, sections of the Lower/Upper Lakes may close—check notices before you go. Wear grippy footwear and carry water; services are spaced out.

Wildlife

The broader forest holds deer, bears, wolves, wildcats, and rare birds, but you’re unlikely to spot large mammals along these busy paths. Early or quieter hours are your best bet for birdlife along the lake edges.
