Perched along the Lower Lakes rim, this cliffside perch looks straight down into the canyon over Milanovac’s vivid water, neighboring Gavanovac, and the string of falls that feed them. It’s the classic Lower Lakes scene—steep walls, stacked cascades, and that unreal blue‑green water—without needing a big detour.

What You’ll See

• A balcony‑style vantage into the lake chain with waterfalls stepping between basins.
• The open‑mouthed Šupljara cave visible across the way, and boardwalks threading down to lake level.

Getting There

The viewpoint sits on the Lower Lakes route from Entrance 1. Follow the signed rim path; stairs then drop to the lakeside boardwalks that continue toward Kaluđerovac and the major falls. Shorter loops (like the popular Lower Lakes circuit) and longer programs both pass this spot, so it’s easy to fold into any day plan.

Best Time to Visit

Early morning is gold: calmer water, softer light, and fewer people. Midday draws the biggest crowds. Typical opening hours run 7 AM–8 PM, but on‑the‑day hours and open trails are posted at the entrances—check before you set off.

Geology, In Brief

These Lower Lakes carve through limestone in a deep canyon. Their famous terraces are living “tufa” dams—calcium‑rich water precipitates onto mosses and algae, building porous barriers that reroute streams and continually create new cascades.

Wildlife

Trout are the easy spot here thanks to the clarity. The surrounding forests shelter large mammals (think bear, wolf, lynx), though you won’t likely see them on these busy canyon paths.

Etiquette and Logistics

Stay on the signed paths and boardwalks—tufa is fragile. There’s no restroom, food, or parking at the overlook itself; use facilities at Entrance 1/2 or the transport stops (P3 boat; St1–St3 shuttle) and bring water. Expect some stairs and damp boards; grippy footwear helps.

Photo Tips

Morning light makes the turquoise pop and reduces glare; a circular polarizer helps you see through the surface. Take a minute at the railings—wide angles capture the lake chain best.
