DeMartin Backcountry Camp is a designated overnight campground on the DeMartin section of the Coastal Trail in Redwood National and State Parks. It’s for hikers doing this stretch, not a quick stop off US 101. A free backcountry permit is required, and only service animals are allowed on the trail and at camp.

Plan the approachThe southern approach is about 2.

The southern approach is about 2.5 miles from Wilson Creek; the northern access is about 3 miles from the trailhead near US 101. Either route may involve crossing busy 101. At the south end, use the trailhead parking east of the highway rather than parking at Wilson Creek Picnic Area. You’ll carry your overnight gear the whole way in.

A practical overnightEach site has a picnic table, fire ring, and food locker, with a composting pit toilet at camp.

Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and food locker, with a composting pit toilet at camp. There’s no treated or reliable natural water source, so bring all your drinking water. Lock away food, garbage, cooking gear, and scented items, then pack your trash out. There’s no food service here.

What’s around campNearby outings include old-growth forest, wetlands, and False Klamath Cove.

Nearby outings include old-growth forest, wetlands, and False Klamath Cove. The camp itself has no ocean view, so choose it for an overnight on the coastal route rather than a scenic overlook.
