Hidden Beach

Tidepools are a good reason to time your visit: check a tide schedule before you go, and lower water can reveal more of the pools. This isn’t a broad, level stretch of sand; expect rocks, cobble and driftwood underfoot. The approach and beach may be hard going if balance or mobility is a concern.

The signed Lagoon Creek Day Use Area off Highway 101 is the clearest starting point. NPS describes the Lagoon Creek/Yurok Loop visit as a one-mile hike to Hidden Beach, followed by a short, steep spur down to shore. The day-use area has parking, an information kiosk and a trailhead. Another official approach starts at Wilson Creek Picnic Area and follows the Coastal Trail about two miles south to the spur; distances depend on your starting point. Pets aren’t allowed on park trails.

A steep-sided rock and smaller sea stacks sit just offshore, with wind-shaped trees on the larger rock. For a beach-level photo, include the dark cobbles or driftwood in front of the stacks. Fog can hide the offshore forms. NPS highlights murres, cormorants and pigeon guillemots on sea stacks along the Klamath coast, though wildlife sightings at the beach vary.
