Sitting at mile 79.5 of Skyline Drive, Loft Mountain Wayside & Camp Store is the southern half’s go-to pit stop. Think burgers, fries, shakes, snacks, and a solid stash of groceries and souvenirs—plus showers and laundry right nearby at the camp store. If you’re camping at Loft Mountain or road‑tripping the Drive, this is the place to reset.
This is one of only a handful of waysides in the park and the key service hub in the south. If you forgot fuel for your stove, need a fresh layer, or just want a hot lunch without leaving Skyline Drive, you’ll be glad this exists.
Expect classic road‑trip fare—burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fries, shakes—and a broad souvenir selection (apparel, pins, books). It’s convenient and satisfying after a hike, but it’s not gourmet, and park pricing applies.
Showers and coin‑ops are at the Loft Mountain Camp Store building, not inside the wayside itself. Hours are seasonal; the campground facilities typically close around the end of October and reopen in early May. Check the concessioner’s page for current hours and availability.
You’re ringed by Blue Ridge forest and ridgelines, and several Loft Mountain trails are close by—perfect for pairing a snack stop with a leg‑stretching loop. Deer and black bears frequent the area; manage food and trash carefully and give wildlife space, especially at dawn and dusk.
