About Nýidalur Hut

Nýidalur (also called Jökuldalur) is a wardened, ultra‑remote highland hut and campsite set on the Sprengisandur route between the Vatnajökull and Hofsjökull ice caps. Think stark volcanic desert, big skies, and real solitude. It’s a strategic staging point for crossing the central Highlands and for day hikes toward Tungnafellsjökull and the Vonarskarð area.

Bring your own sleeping bag, food, and eating utensils. Toilets and hot showers sit in a separate service building in summer; a dry latrine is available off‑season. A marked camping area lies by the service block with water taps. There are no shops, restaurants, or gas stations here, so arrive fully self‑sufficient.
