Tin Mine Cove Camping Area is one of five overnight hikers’ campsites in the northern wilderness of Wilsons Promontory National Park, on the Corner Inlet side. It’s a backcountry stop on a multi-day walk, not a drive-in campground. Come for a night in the park’s remote north; skip it if you want an easy stay or a short detour from the road.

Route-finding is part of the tripThis is a serious walk-in destination.

This is a serious walk-in destination. Parks Victoria requires a hiker self-assessment before issuing a permit and says some northern route sections are undefined. You should be proficient with map-and-compass navigation and comfortable making decisions on a remote coastal route. Check current route and permit information before setting out; conditions on the northern tracks are not something to guess at.

There are no facilities at the campsite, so carry everything you need, including drinking water, and don’t plan on a toilet, shelter or supplies when you arrive. Groups are limited to six people, and stays are limited to two consecutive nights at each camp area year-round. The appeal is a night in the northern wilderness, with the cove and open coast as the setting; it’s the walk and remoteness that define the visit.
