The Banff Sign is a line of oversized brown letters on a low concrete base on the hill beside Banff Train Station. It’s the town’s familiar welcome sign, with Mount Norquay behind it. I’d make it a short walk from the station or part of a wander through town; the photo is the whole attraction.

Getting the pictureFollow the path up from Train Station Public Parking.

Follow the path up from Train Station Public Parking. This is a popular stop, and summer can mean a wait for your turn; June through October is the busiest stretch. Sunrise may bring softer light on the mountain and a shorter queue, though neither is guaranteed. Parking is the practical catch: there’s a designated public lot, but don’t count on finding an open space at a busy time.

Why it movedThe letters first went up on Norquay Road in 2017 as a welcome at Banff’s entrance.

The letters first went up on Norquay Road in 2017 as a welcome at Banff’s entrance. They became a much bigger photo stop than expected, and visitors were stopping beside traffic and walking along the busy road to reach them. In November 2025, the sign moved to this station-side hill, where the path and public lot make the stop safer and easier to reach.
