Eohippus Lake Trail

Start at upper Sunshine Village and follow the Sunshine Village–Simpson Pass Trail past Monarch Viewpoint to Simpson Pass. Continue on the Simpson Pass–Healy Pass corridor to the signed Eohippus Lake junction, then follow the Eohippus Lake Trail to the lake in the alpine meadows. The route crosses the Alberta–British Columbia boundary and ends at the lake trail's mapped terminus.

This is a hard, remote out-and-back with 9.1 miles of total visitor travel. The stored line is the 4.53-mile physical corridor from upper Sunshine Village to Eohippus Lake, shown once because the return follows the same path. Expect sustained alpine walking, rolling grades, exposed weather, and route-finding beyond the busier Sunshine Meadows viewpoints.

Reach the mapped trailhead at upper Sunshine Village by parking at the Sunshine Village base and using the seasonal gondola. The lower parking lot approach is a longer alternative and is not part of this route. Facilities are available at the village; there are no services at Eohippus Lake. Confirm gondola and trail access with Banff Sunshine before starting.

Carry a map or GPS, layers, rain gear, food, water, and bear spray. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. Stay on the signed route and protect fragile alpine vegetation; fast-changing weather and limited traffic make self-sufficient navigation important.
