Twin Cairns and Monarch Viewpoint

The mapped line starts from the upper-village access and heads through open meadow and gentle ridges to the Monarch turnaround. The tread is mostly maintained dirt and gravel, with some rocky stretches and rolling grades. Stay on the designated path: this is sensitive alpine ground, and the exposed landscape is part of what makes the walk special.

For photos, wait until you're at the viewpoint and include a little trail or meadow in the foreground. That gives a phone photo enough scale to show how wide the view really is. Summer brings wildflowers; early fall adds larch colour when conditions allow.

Park at the Sunshine Village base area, then use the paid gondola and, when it is operating for your chosen access, the Standish chairlift. Check the resort's current lift schedule and allow time for the last ride down. The route is above treeline in places, so bring layers, rain protection, sunscreen, water, and bear spray. Dogs are not allowed on the sightseeing lift access or this trail network.

There is little shade and weather can change quickly. Wind, cloud, rain, or early snow can make an otherwise easy trail feel much less casual. Turn around with time in hand for the lifts, and use the shorter upper-village walks instead if the high route is not comfortable that day.
