North Molar Pass

North Molar Pass is a demanding out-and-back from the Mosquito Creek Trailhead to a high, rocky pass in Banff National Park. The mapped corridor is stored once in the outbound direction; the visitor distance is about 14.4 miles (23 km) round trip, with roughly 795 m (2,608 ft) of elevation gain. Allow about 8–9 hours for the full return hike.

From the signed trailhead north of Mosquito Creek Bridge, follow the creek through forest, avalanche chutes, and open valley bottom to the Mosquito Creek backcountry campground. Continue beyond the campground to the signed junction and take the left fork for North Molar Pass. The trail climbs through braided forest and broad subalpine meadows, passes Mosquito Lake, then steepens over rocky tundra and scree to the narrow pass at about 2,590 m (8,497 ft). The pass overlooks the Fish Lakes valley; travel beyond it toward Fish Lakes is a separate backpacking extension.

This is a remote, strenuous route with muddy or braided sections, creek crossings, uneven footing, and a steep final ascent. Snow can linger near the pass and the open terrain can be cold, windy, or difficult to navigate in poor visibility. Carry bear spray, treat creek water, bring navigation tools and layers, and allow enough daylight for the return. Dogs are permitted on leash. A valid Parks Canada pass is required for the park stop.
