CONS

Overview
Tucked just off the Wentworth Falls picnic area, Den Fenella Falls is a compact, immersive escape: a series of pretty cascades in a shaded gully that leads to a tiny, fenced lookout hanging right over the cliff edge. It’s an easy add‑on if you’re in the Wentworth Falls area, and a refreshing change from the busier headline tracks.
What You’ll See
Follow Den Fenella Creek through a cool, mossy corridor of ferns and sandstone. You’ll cross little bridges and stepping stones, pass a few minor cascades, then pop out at the cliff‑edge Den Fenella Lookout with sweeping views across Jamison Valley. On clear days you can pick out Kings Tableland, Mount Solitary, Narrow Neck Plateau and Sublime Point.
Track & Difficulty
It’s short (about 1 km return) but expect a steep final stretch and damp patches near the creek. Surfaces can be slick after rain, and the last bit feels like a proper descent into a different world before climbing back out the same way. Start from the well-signed Den Fenella Track at the Wentworth Falls picnic area near Jamison Lookout.
Why It’s Worth It
You get two experiences in one: an intimate rainforest gully with cascades and a big‑view lookout over the valley. It’s also typically quieter than the main Wentworth Falls tracks, so it’s a great choice when you want scenery without the crowds.
Flora, Fauna & Nature Notes
The gully’s cool microclimate supports ferns, mosses and seasonal wildflowers. Keep an eye on sandstone ledges for rock sprengelia, and listen for native birdlife echoing through the gorge.
Best Time to Visit
Year‑round works here. The gully is especially pleasant on hot days, and wildflowers brighten things in the warmer months. For punchier cascades and better photos, aim for after rain.
Practicalities
All facilities are at the Wentworth Falls picnic area at the start: parking, toilets and picnic tables. There are no amenities at the falls or lookout. Bring water, wear shoes with grip, and be ready for wet steps and a small viewing space at the end.
