Katoomba Falls Lookout is the go-to perch for taking in the multi‑tiered Katoomba Falls plunging into Jamison Valley. It sits right by the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and close to the Scenic World precinct, so you can reach it quickly or fold it into a longer circuit like the Katoomba Falls Round Walk.

What You’ll See

Expect layered sandstone cliffs, lush ferny gullies, and the segmented cascades of Katoomba Falls dropping toward the valley. From platforms nearby you can also frame up Mount Solitary, Orphan Rock, and—depending on where you wander—the famous Three Sisters.

Why It’s Worth Your Time

Few lookouts let you see so much of the falls this clearly from multiple angles. In minutes, you can hop between platforms for different compositions, or detour to Juliet’s Balcony and the Underfalls Walk for closer, more dramatic views.

How to Do It

• Quick hit: Follow the well-marked path from the reserve/Scenic World area to the main lookout.
• Make it a mini-adventure: String together nearby viewpoints like Orphan Rock Lookout and Rainforest Lookout. A short wander west takes you past Katoomba Cascades for another perspective of the system.
• Photo notes: Try several platforms—one path to the right isn’t necessarily the best angle; heading west and emerging left of the falls often pays off.

Crowds and Caveats

This is one of the area’s most photographed spots, so expect company—especially around midday on weekends and holidays. Some short side tracks include staircases and steeper pitches; sturdy shoes help, and the exposed platforms mean you’ll want sun protection.

Wildlife

The rainforest setting supports plenty of birdlife typical of the Blue Mountains. Keep an ear out for lyrebirds and an eye out for cockatoos flitting along the escarpment.
