More about Oregon Inlet Fishing Center

Oregon Inlet Fishing Center is a full-service marina and charter hub on Oregon Inlet Road, just north of the Marc Basnight Bridge. More than 40 charter boats offer trips in the Gulf Stream or Pamlico Sound. If you want to see the Outer Banks' working fishing fleet or head out on the water, this is the stop to make. It's a working waterfront rather than a beach pullout: boats, docks and the day's catch are the main draw.

Even without a charterYou don't need to book a trip to have a reason to stop.

You don't need to book a trip to have a reason to stop. The center has a free public boat ramp and parking behind the building, while its shore-side services include an Oceans East bait-and-tackle shop and Sea Chef Dockside Kitchen, with meals for dining in or carrying out. On days the center's boats sail, it also offers fish cleaning and processing on a first-come, first-served basis. You can watch boats move between the slips and get a close look at the working marina.

Storms and a new centerA hurricane opened Oregon Inlet in 1846.

A hurricane opened Oregon Inlet in 1846. The crew of the ship Oregon witnessed the new passage, which took its name from their vessel. A marina concession came later, after Cape Hatteras National Seashore was established in 1953. The earlier center building was badly damaged by the 1962 Ash Wednesday Storm. A two-story replacement opened in 2024, with retail, charter reservations and the restaurant downstairs and an event room with an open-air deck upstairs. Public drop-in access to that deck isn't confirmed, so don't count on its view without checking first.
