This is Beacon Rock State Park's main campground: a single one-way loop of 26 sites in the forest across Highway 14 from Beacon Rock. The Civilian Conservation Corps built it in the 1930s. It's a tent and van campground. A mossy basalt ledge runs along one side, the ground falls away toward Little Creek on the other, and only a few sites take anything longer than 20 feet. Bigger rigs belong at Woodard Creek, the park's hookup campground across the highway.

Why you'd stay hereThe hiking starts at your site.

The hiking starts at your site. The Hadley Trailhead is inside the loop and climbs to Little Beacon Rock, which faces the big one, and on up Hamilton Mountain. The Hamilton Mountain trail to Rodney Falls and Pool of the Winds starts just down the road. Hadley Grove, a stand of second-growth firs named for the park's first superintendent, is a short walk down the trail near site 11. Watch for poison oak on the trails later in summer.

Booking and practicalsIt's seasonal and closes over winter, roughly October through March.

It's seasonal and closes over winter, roughly October through March. Standard sites are reservable; HB1 is a first-come hiker and biker site. Some sites are split-level, with parking above and the tent spot a few steps down. A shared path through the loop leads to the restrooms and water. It's hilly, with no designated accessible sites. Expect no phone signal at the upper sites, and book ahead for summer weekends.
