Coopertown Airboats is a guided airboat-tour base on Southwest 8th Street and one of three airboat stops NPS lists east of Shark Valley. The regular ride lasts about 40 minutes and covers roughly five miles. It is a quick way to get out across open sawgrass and into the Everglades with a guide explaining the landscape. Go for the ride and the view; wildlife is a bonus, not a guarantee.

The route crosses open sawgrass and enters a hardwood hammock, a patch of firmer, tree-covered ground rising out of the wetlands. The operator says trips may stop at alligator holes. Guides may point out alligators, herons, egrets, purple gallinules and other wildlife, but sightings vary from outing to outing, so don’t expect a particular animal count.

Give the stop some breathing roomCoopertown is a separate operator along the road, not Shark Valley’s visitor center.

Coopertown is a separate operator along the road, not Shark Valley’s visitor center. Check that your directions or reservation say Coopertown; several airboat attractions sit along this stretch. Longer private rides can be reserved if you want more time on the water. Visitors report that waits and boarding can vary, so leave some slack in your day instead of scheduling a tight connection.

The on-site restaurant advertises frog legs, alligator tail and catfish, and there’s a gift shop. It works as a food stop as well as a ride, though you can keep the visit to the tour.
