Choose it for a quiet, communal off-grid stay; skip it if basic facilities would make the night uncomfortable.

Know the setupThere’s no running water, shower or flush toilet.

There’s no running water, shower or flush toilet. Drinking water comes in tanks, and bathrooms are outhouses. Guests have a shared kitchen and free parking, so plan to self-cater; there’s no meal service. This is a rustic stay, and that’s a big part of the decision.

The hostel has a campfire pit for shared evenings. Visitors repeatedly mention helpful hosts and a communal feel; some also describe mountain views or starry nights. Nearby hiking trails and bolted climbing routes give you reasons to get outside, and the glacier-fed creek nearby is promoted for a cold dip.

Get there readyThe hostel is directly off Highway 93 N.

The hostel is directly off Highway 93 N. A national park entry pass is required to drive the Parkway, where services are limited, so fuel up and get food in Lake Louise or Jasper. There’s no year-round cell coverage along the route; limited coverage is only available at the Columbia Icefield from May to early October. Snow tires or chains are required on the Parkway from November 1 through March 31, and whenever it’s covered by snow or ice.
