What to Expect

A quick, scenic pullout on the Icefields Parkway with sweeping views over the river valley and distant glaciers. The draw is right in the name: mountain goats often work the mineral-rich cliffs here. It’s the kind of stop where you hop out, scan the slopes, snap a few photos, and carry on.

Why It’s Special

This is one of the easier places to try your luck at spotting wild mountain goats without hiking. When they’re around, you’ll see them clinging to steep rock, licking minerals from pale cliff bands—a classic Canadian Rockies moment.

Wildlife Tips

• Goats are most active early and late in the day. Sightings aren’t guaranteed, so give yourself a few minutes to scan the cliffs above the pullout.
• In late May to early June, you’ve got a better shot at seeing kids with the herd.
• If wildlife is close to the road, keep a safe distance and never feed or approach.

The Stop Itself

It’s a straightforward roadside viewpoint: short walk from the car to the edge, expansive look at the valley (with the Athabasca River visible from many angles), and a fast return to the highway. Plan 10–20 minutes unless you’re waiting out the goats.

Best Time to Visit

• Time of day: Morning light is flattering and often when goats show. Golden hour toward sunset is great for photos too.
• Day of week: Weekdays are calmer; weekends and midday see more tour traffic.
• Season: Spring through early summer has lively wildlife activity; late May–early June is prime for goat kids.

Good to Know

There are basic facilities and parking at the pullout, but no services beyond that. Bring a zoom lens or binoculars—the goats are usually up on the cliffs.
