Overview
About Nourlangia Art Walk
This is Kakadu’s classic Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock-art circuit: a 2.3 km (1.4-mile) loop from the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) car park through open woodland and sandstone to Anbangbang Gallery and Anbangbang Shelter, with a short climb to Kunwarddewardde Lookout.
The route is an outdoor cultural museum, with Aboriginal paintings, shelters and archaeological evidence documenting more than 20,000 years of occupation. Look for creation beings such as Namarrkon (the Lightning Man), x-ray depictions of animals and fish, and paintings of European sailing ships from first contact. Seasonal guided activities add context about the geology, archaeology and Traditional Custodians’ connection to Country.
The marked track is generally easy but includes gentle hills, steps and a short lookout climb. The main gallery loop has wheelchair-accessible sections; the lookout section is not fully accessible. Allow about 2 hours for the circuit and time to read the signs and view the art.
Kakadu’s gates are posted as open from 7 am to 7 pm; check the park’s current access information before setting out. Carry plenty of water, sun protection and sturdy footwear, stay on marked tracks, keep behind barriers, and never touch the paintings. Drones and pets are not permitted at Burrungkuy.
