Weano Recreation Area is the developed day-use picnic and information stop near the Weano and Bilungunha (Hancock) gorge walks. Shaded picnic tables, barbecues, toilets and an information shelter make it a useful place to pause or sort out a route. The short Oxer–Junction Pool lookout walk is listed at 800 m; the gorge descents require a much bigger commitment. For a low-effort stop, stay around the picnic precinct; for the gorge scenery, plan to walk.
Two different gorge viewsAt Oxer Lookout, Weano, Red, Joffre and Bilungunha gorges meet.
At Oxer Lookout, Weano, Red, Joffre and Bilungunha gorges meet. The walls show tiers of banded iron formation, with a pool roughly 100 m below. Junction Pool Lookout looks up Hancock Gorge and down to the pool, giving you a closer view into the gorge. These are nearby walking destinations, rather than views from the picnic tables.

Bring food and drinking water; a public drinking-water point isn't confirmed at the picnic area. Summer days often exceed 40°C, and gorge pools can be especially cold from April through September. Do not enter gorges if rain is in the area: flash flooding is a serious hazard in the narrow channels. Routes such as Handrail Pool and Hancock Gorge to Kermit's Pool involve steep cliffs, narrow passages and climbing, so they are much harder outings than the lookout walk.
