“By eighteen sixty-eight, Seneca Ray Stoddard was photographing Lake George with equipment that could make a modern camera bag seem weightless. His camera could weigh fifty pounds or more.”

Star Trek Original Series Set Tour is a guided indoor walk through room-by-room recreations of the USS Enterprise’s transporter room, corridors, sickbay, quarters, engineering and bridge, in a former supermarket in downtown Ticonderoga. If you like the original series or how TV sets pull off an illusion, this is a good stop; the standard tour takes about an hour and includes the Galileo shuttlecraft installation. You can sit in the captain’s chair and try some bridge controls. If you’d rather wander on your own, the standard tour may feel quick.

The route moves from the transporter room through corridors to sickbay, quarters, the Jefferies tube, engineering and finally the bridge. The recreated corridor uses forced perspective to seem longer, while engineering’s backdrop creates a depth illusion. Seeing how the rooms fit together is part of the fun: the ship feels huge on screen, but the sets had to work as a real production space.

The original series filmed on Desilu Stage 9 in Hollywood from 1966 to 1968, and those original sets were later lost. Ticonderoga resident James Cawley rebuilt them from original plans connected to costume designer William Ware Theiss. The bridge’s blinking buttons, switches and sound effects make it more than a static replica; its monitors add screen imagery that Gene Roddenberry wanted for the original set but the 1960s production couldn’t manage.

Make the visit workThis is a guided tour, not a self-paced museum.

This is a guided tour, not a self-paced museum. If you want more time to interact and take pictures, the separate photo tour is designed for that. Confirm the tour is running before making a long drive; posted hours have not always matched day-of conditions. There’s a small display and gift shop, but no meal offering is described on site, so plan to eat in town. The operator doesn’t publish clear accessibility details; check with them if step-free access matters.
