“Chisha Foka, the name on the paved trail here, roughly means among the post oaks. It was also the name of a Choctaw settlement where Jackson stands today. So what is a post oak?”

More about Parkway Information Cabin

What this stop is nowThe log cabin at milepost 102.

The log cabin at milepost 102.4 was once an indoor information point, with a desk, maps and small exhibits. It is now closed indefinitely, and listed as permanently closed, so do not plan on staff, exhibits, sales or any indoor service here. Older photos of a warm wood interior circulate widely, but that experience is no longer available.

What remains is the grounds: a parking area, a nearby restroom/comfort station, picnic tables and direct access to the paved multi-use path. An outdoor information/brochure box has been documented on site, though you should not count on finding printed material in it.

The trail is the reason to comeThe paved Chisha Foka / Ridgeland Multi-Use Path runs beside the site and is a genuine reason…

The paved Chisha Foka / Ridgeland Multi-Use Path runs beside the site and is a genuine reason to stop. It is a designated walking and cycling route, roughly ten miles of asphalt in the wider corridor, and this spot works as an access point and turnaround rather than a destination in itself. Walkers, runners, cyclists and skaters all use it, and the surface is smooth and shaded in stretches.

If you are driving the Parkway, treat it as a leg-stretch and restroom break partway between Jackson and the Canton area, not a visitor center.

Practical detailsWhere: milepost 102.
  • Where: milepost 102.4 in Ridgeland, about a mile north of the I-55 exit 105A area, just east of the intersection.
  • On site: parking, restroom/comfort station near the cabin, picnic tables, trailhead access to the paved path.
  • Not on site: indoor information or exhibits, and no grills at the picnic tables.
  • Best timing: daylight hours, and cooler parts of the day if you plan to walk or ride any distance in Mississippi heat and humidity.
Honest drawbacksThis is a modest stop.

This is a modest stop. The building you see is shut, so the appeal is entirely outdoors: pavement, shade, a table and a place to pause. The restroom setup is functional rather than pleasant, and some visitors find it the weakest part of the stop. Bring your own supplies for a picnic and set expectations toward a short break or a trail start, not a full visit.
