Overview

About Beaulieu – National Motor Museum

Why stop

  • A deep collection spanning everyday motoring, motorcycles, F1 and speed-record machines
  • Works for mixed groups, with interactive displays and a wider site to explore

Heads up

  • The full Beaulieu attraction is a substantial commitment rather than a quick museum stop
This is the National Motor Museum, a purpose-built museum hall at the heart of the Beaulieu attraction, and it holds a broad motoring collection covering cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. The displays trace the story of motoring from the earliest motor carriages right up to the classic family saloons most people grew up with, so it works just as well for casual visitors as for people who know their engines.

Plan your stop

Before you go

Best time to go

Arrive early in the day if you can. Early arrival gives you time to add Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey, the gardens, the monorail and the vintage bus, which sit elsewhere on the site and are covered by the same ticket. Combining them can fill a full day. Being indoors, the museum is a solid wet weather or cold day option when the outdoor parts of the site are less appealing.

For photography, the lighting is display-lit and fairly even, so a lens that copes with lower light helps, and the polished paintwork throws reflections that are easier to manage from an angle rather than straight on.
