Trail guide
Deer Watch Trail at Bolderwood is an easy 0.3-mile loop from Bolderwood car park to a forest-and-meadow viewpoint and back. Allow 15 to 30 minutes for the walk and a pause. It suits a quick woodland stop more than a longer ramble. Follow the yellow markers: the blue Jubilee Grove and red Radnor trails start here too, but make longer, different walks.
Start beside the information point and picnic tables at the upper end of the car park, pass through the small gate, and follow the yellow waymarks. The gravel path is moderately smooth with gentle slopes; benches sit along the way, and there is a low-catch gate. It meanders through ornamental woodland before opening at a seated viewpoint over meadow and forest. The broader Bolderwood woods include old Douglas firs, some dating to about 1860, among native and veteran trees.
The open meadow is the payoff. Pause at the viewpoint and look across the grass and treeline; deer may be visible, but sightings are not guaranteed. The former feeding station has ended, so this is a quiet wildlife viewpoint rather than a scheduled feeding show. For a photo, keep the meadow and woodland edge together in the frame, and watch from the path instead of approaching any animals.
The access is Bolderwood car park on Ornamental Drive (SO43 7GQ). Toilets and picnic tables are beside the start; parking is paid and includes two accessible spaces. If the car park is full, continue to Bratley View or Canadian Memorial rather than parking on the verge or access road. Dogs are welcome: keep them under effective control, on leads in the car park and beside roads, and never let them chase wildlife. No café or drinking-water point is listed at the trailhead.
