The Rabbit Mounds of Rockford“On Rockford Common, some long, low bumps in the heath were deliberately made for rabbits. They are pillow mounds, part of medieval warrens where rabbits were kept for meat and fur.”

Trail guide
Ringwood Town Trail is an easy, one-mile circular walk from Ringwood Gateway, linking the historic streets with Bickerley and Jubilee Gardens. Allow about an hour for the route and its stops. It follows streets, pavements and short footpaths rather than a woodland track.
Cross by the bus stops toward the old Meeting House, built in 1727 and now a local exhibition and history centre. Meeting House Lane leads into Market Place and the narrow High Street. At Fridays Cross, turn beneath an arch down Kingsbury Lane to Bickerley, where the land has had common rights for centuries. The trail follows a path through a pocket park beside the Millstream; the Avon Valley footpath over the water meadows is a separate continuation, not part of this loop.
Follow Bickerley Terrace, Strides Lane and West Street into Jubilee Gardens. The gardens offer the route’s two bridge photo stops: a small brick bridge over the Millstream and a three-arched stone bridge over the River Avon. Return through Market Place and up Star Lane into The Furlong. On the way, the High Street reuses the ornamental facade of the former Market House, which stood in Market Place until 1867; the Jubilee Lamp was erected by public subscription in 1887. Furlong Car Park is beside the start, and toilets are at Ringwood Gateway. Expect town pavements and road crossings throughout.
