Long Key State Park Campground is the park’s hike-in, tent-only campground along the Atlantic shore. It suits campers after a simple waterside stay who can carry their gear in. This is not a drive-up RV campground: the sites have no electric or water hookups.
Each site has a picnic table, grill and hammock stand. Campers have restrooms and cold outdoor showers, and the park lists refillable bottle stations at its restrooms. Pets are allowed in the campground on a six-foot handheld leash, but not on the beaches or natural shoreline.
Long Key’s best-known earlier resort was a separate railroad-era fishing camp built during Henry Flagler’s push toward Key West. It drew anglers including Zane Grey and U.S. presidents before the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane destroyed it; it never reopened.
Visitors describe a quiet waterfront and good birding, along with mosquitoes that can be troublesome around dusk and overnight. Some also find the natural shoreline soft or muddy for wading, so think of this as a place to camp beside the water rather than a swimming beach.
