Highwood Meadows Day Use Area

Overview

Highwood Meadows Day Use Area is a quick, rewarding stop for anyone wanting an easy taste of alpine country without committing to a big climb. It’s a front‑country spot with pit/vault toilets and a short interpretive walk through meadows right off the highway.

The Walk

Expect a gentle 1.1 km out‑and‑back trail with about 29 m of elevation gain. Much of it follows a boardwalk, so you’re strolling more than hiking, and most visitors take 30–60 minutes. It’s ideal for families, leg‑stretchers, and anyone easing into the park’s higher terrain.

What You’ll See

Alpine meadow scenery is the star here. Park‑wide, wildlife is common—bears live in the area, and you may also encounter (or spot signs of) elk, deer, moose, bighorn sheep, marmots, pikas, and raptors. Give animals space and keep food secure.

Season & Logistics

This day‑use site operates seasonally from June 15 to November 30. Pit/vault toilets are provided. Before you go, check Alberta Parks advisories and trail reports for any wildlife warnings or temporary closures that can affect access.
