Hāna-Maui Resort

Hāna-Maui Resort is a full-service hotel in Hāna, with rooms, cottages, villas and bungalows spread through coastal gardens. Think of it as an overnight base for East Maui, not a roadside attraction. Travelers are welcomed at the resort's dining venues, while pools, shuttles and most activities are guest amenities, so check access before planning a drop-in visit.

The Restaurant looks across Hāna Bay toward Kauiki Hill. The resort has two pools, including one facing the coast, plus a spa, fitness center and exercise trail. The ocean-facing setting and bungalow layout are the draw; the stay is expensive, and room upkeep can be uneven. The pools and grounds are part of a stay, not a public viewpoint.

From Kahului, Hāna is about 51 miles away and usually takes two and a half to four hours without stops. Narrow one-lane bridges and hairpin turns make this a slow drive. Staying overnight makes more sense than treating Hāna as a quick turnaround, especially if you want time in East Maui. The resort shuttle to Hāmoa Beach is guest-oriented; the beach is a separate destination.

The Restaurant serves breakfast overlooking Hāna Bay; its menu includes mochiko pancakes and a papaya boat. Across the street, Hāna Ranch Restaurant serves lunch and dinner, including ahi poke and fresh-catch fish sandwiches. A takeout window offers breakfast sandwiches, pastries and fruit. Check current hours and confirm dining access before you set out.

The property opened in 1946 as the six-room Kaʻuiki Inn. San Francisco entrepreneur Paul Fagan founded it and brought his minor-league San Francisco Seals baseball team to Hāna for spring training. It later operated as Hotel Hāna and Travaasa Hāna, names that still turn up in older maps and photo captions.
