Lily Ridge Trail

Lily Ridge Trail is a 1.2-mile loop from Lily Lake, climbing a rocky ridge above the water before returning along the south shore. It is the quick choice when you want to see the lake from above as well as beside it. Allow 45 to 60 minutes for roughly 200 feet of climbing. The walk is easy overall, but the first ascent is steep and rocky in places. Take the signed branch just before the footbridge and stay on the main tread rather than the shortcut that climbs straight uphill.

The ridge trail climbs through trees and boulders, opening framed views across Lily Lake toward Longs Peak and Mount Meeker. A bench sits in a small rock nook near the top, almost 200 feet above the water. The mountain view photographs better a little lower on the ridge, where you can frame the lake beneath the peaks.

Past the high point, the trail descends at an easier grade toward the lake. A couple of short stretches blend into the ground, so keep an eye on the tread and the next turn. At about 0.8 mile, the ridge segment rejoins the lakeside path; turn right and follow the south shore back to the parking area. This is the standard 1.2-mile loop, without the optional spur.

The return passes the lake’s willow-lined edges and beaver ponds. Watch for waterfowl and other wildlife around the wet shoreline, but treat sightings as a bonus rather than a promise. A short crossing near Fish Creek comes before the climb and can leave your feet wet when the rocks are covered.

The park acquired the Lily Lake area in 1992 and built its accessible shoreline trail there. Lily Ridge is a separate, rougher route above the lake, with a short climb in place of the flatter lakeside walk. Pets are prohibited on park trails.
