Johnny Souey Cove Camping Area

Johnny Souey Cove is a designated overnight campsite on a remote cove in the northern wilderness of Wilsons Promontory, one of five camps in the area. It’s for hikers planning a multi-day northern route, not a drive-up campground or a quick beach stop. The draw is a night on this stretch of coast as part of a proper backcountry trip.

Parks Victoria requires a hiking permit, issued after a Hiker Self Assessment Form. Some northern route sections are undefined, so map-and-compass navigation is part of the trip. Treat it as a navigation-heavy wilderness hike, not a signed walk you can follow casually.

Official guidance describes it as a campsite only, with no facilities, so plan a self-sufficient stay. Groups are capped at six people per campsite, and stays are limited to two consecutive nights in each camp area. Stick to the designated camping area; beach-side camping isn’t confirmed as permitted.
