Bridge Bay Marina

Overview

Bridge Bay Marina is the park’s get-on-the-water hub on Yellowstone Lake, set beside the large Bridge Bay Campground. In summer, it’s where you launch, join a scenic cruise, or head out with a guide for lake fishing. There’s a small marina store for snacks and basic gear, and the complex supports slip rentals, fuel, and guided outings.

What You Can Do

• Scenic lake cruises: Relaxed, hour‑ish trips with interpretive commentary and broad views of the lake and nearby landmarks.
• Guided fishing: Well‑reviewed trips that make it easy for first‑timers and families; expect a focus on lake trout (native cutthroat are released per park practice).
• DIY boating: Launch your own craft or check on site for small-boat rental availability. Yellowstone Lake is enormous and cold—treat it like a high‑alpine water body and watch the wind.

How It Works (Season & Services)

• The Marina Store typically operates mid‑May through early September, selling snacks, ice, basic supplies, and fishing necessities.
• The marina supports fuel, a boat ramp, dock slip rentals (very limited), and a nearby picnic area. An NPS ranger station is part of the complex, and the adjacent campground has multiple restroom buildings.

Permits, Inspections, and Rules

• All private boats need two things before launching: a Yellowstone boating permit and an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) inspection.
• Newer AIS measures can require extended dry times for certain boats (e.g., sailboats and complex inboard/jet setups). Plan this into your schedule so it doesn’t derail launch day.
• Boat‑camping on the lake requires a backcountry permit in addition to boating/AIS requirements.

Wildlife Notes

The Bridge Bay area (including the adjacent campground) is frequented by elk and bison, with occasional bear activity. Follow food storage rules and standard wildlife distances, and keep your head on a swivel when moving around parking lots and shoreline paths.

Best Time to Visit

• For calmer water and easier parking, aim for early morning. Midday late‑morning windows, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, see the most bustle.
• Photographers get soft light over the lake at dawn and the warm glow late afternoon; winds often build by midday.
• Book slips and guided trips well in advance for peak summer dates; walk‑up space is scarce.

• Weather shifts fast on this high‑elevation lake—bring layers and check the wind forecast before committing to a rental or launch.
• No overnight parking of boats on trailers in marina lots.
• The nearest paid showers are at Fishing Bridge RV Park, a short drive away.
• If you’re new to the lake, a 4‑hour guided fishing trip or the scenic cruise is the most stress‑free way to experience it.
