Grant Village Lodge is a seasonal, roughly 300-room lodging complex on Yellowstone's southern side, near West Thumb and Yellowstone Lake. It suits a trip that puts the southern part of the park first: you can stay inside the park, with two restaurants on the Grant Village campus. Choose it for location, not room luxury. It usually operates from late May into early October, but check that year's dates before planning an overnight.
The six two-story buildings each hold 50 rooms. Rooms are simple, with heat, a fan, a mini-fridge and a coffee maker, but no air-conditioning or TV; there is no in-room microwave. Guests often find the rooms and showers compact, and some describe the furnishings as dated. The buildings have no elevators, so upper floors are stairs-only. Accessible rooms are available.
Grant Village Dining Room is the full-service option, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Lake House is the casual lakeside restaurant, with tacos and cold drinks and a view of Yellowstone Lake. There is also a lounge and a gift shop beside registration.
Grant Village was built in 1984 and named for Ulysses S. Grant, who was president when Yellowstone became the world's first national park in 1872.
