Slough Creek Campground

Slough Creek Campground is a 16-site seasonal campground at 6,250 feet in Yellowstone’s Northern Range. It’s a quiet base for fishing, wildlife country, and the nearby Slough Creek Trail, with dark nights as part of the appeal. The last two miles are on a dirt road. Sites are reservable, and the turnaround is tight enough that vehicles longer than 25 feet are not recommended.

There are seasonal vault toilets and seasonal potable water, but no showers, camp store, electric hookups, or cell reception. Check whether water is operating for your dates and bring the supplies you need. Food-storage lockers are seasonal too; secure food in your vehicle or a locker when you aren’t using it. Some sites are open and sunny, so shade can be limited.

Hiking and fishing are close at hand. The Slough Creek Trail begins nearby and follows an old wagon route into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, climbing steeply before dropping to its first meadow. This is a good base if you want to explore on foot; it’s a more remote stay than a quick roadside stop.

Bison have been reported moving through camp, though wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Keep food secured in a vehicle or food-storage box when it isn’t in immediate use. On clear nights, the open sky is a draw, and wolves may howl in the distance.
