Trail guide
Coral Track is a steep 1.87-mile (3.0 km) out-and-back from its car park on SH73 to treeline above the Bealey Valley. The mapped track is about 0.93 miles (1.5 km) each way; the route line is stored once, and you return the same way. The reward is a high view into the valley. The published time is two hours to treeline, with no separate return estimate; allow about four hours for the full outing.
Expect a very steep ascent through forest. Near the upper forest edge, the track is exposed, with precipitous drops on both sides. The descent is especially slippery, so take care on the way down and turn back if the footing or exposure is beyond your comfort.
This walk ends at the forest edge. Beyond it, the route becomes the serious Rome Ridge and Mount Rolleston climbing continuation, which calls for previous climbing experience and mountaineering equipment. That alpine extension is not part of this mapped walk.
Dogs are not permitted in Arthur's Pass National Park.
