Mountain House Backpackers is a hostel on West Coast Road in central Arthur's Pass Village, with mixed dorms and private rooms. It's a practical base for nearby park walks and an overnight stay in the village. The property has views of the surrounding forest and mountains.
The shared kitchen and dining area are the main draw if you want to cook for yourself; tea and coffee are provided. There's also a lounge, self-service laundry and Wi-Fi, useful for a longer stay in the pass.
Private rooms are available, but bathrooms and the kitchen and lounge are shared. It's a good fit if you want village lodging and don't mind communal facilities; it won't suit you if a private bathroom is a must.
