Guide
La Harmonita is the small concession store in Castolon, a useful pause on Big Bend’s remote west side. It carries cold drinks, snacks, ice, basic groceries, and general and camping supplies. Treat it as a quick resupply or drink stop rather than a full grocery store or sit-down meal. Its operating days and hours vary, so check before relying on it for a particular item.
There is auto parking and picnic seating beside the store, making it an easy place to pause between drives. Visitors describe a modest grab-and-go selection, and their impressions of price and choice differ; there is no dependable menu to plan a meal around.
La Harmonita is the current concession, separate from the historic La Harmonia Store nearby. That earlier trading post began as U.S. Cavalry barracks built in 1919–20 during the Mexican Revolution, then served ranching and farming families in the remote settlements along this stretch of the Rio Grande. It closed in 1961 when the company’s holdings became part of the park. A 2019 fire damaged the historic building and latrine, after which a temporary concession was added in the area.
