Perched at MP 467.4 near Ravensford/Cherokee, Ballhoot Scar Overlook (elev. ~2,550 ft) is a quick, no-hike stop with a wide look into a lush valley and surrounding ridges. It’s an easy pull-off along the Parkway—free to access—and most folks linger just long enough for photos and a breather.
The namesake “scar” is the hook: loggers once sent felled trees down these steep slopes, yelling “ballhoot” as a warning. Those runs carved slashes in the forest that are still visible across the mountainside—a rare, tangible reminder of the area’s logging past.
