Follow the red waymarkers; the nearby Balvenie Pillar Path is a separate walk.

Late summer and autumn are the estate's best seasons for red squirrel sightings, when adults are busy storing food and young squirrels are out. Look up and listen for scratching claws on bark. Stripped pine-cone cores and rounded dreys tucked close to tree trunks are signs of squirrel activity, especially along the first section. Sightings are never guaranteed.

Along the River TiltThe loop passes a wooded stretch of the River Tilt that the estate map labels River Tilt Grotto.

The loop passes a wooded stretch of the River Tilt that the estate map labels River Tilt Grotto. Here, water runs over pale rock ledges beneath overhanging branches. Atholl Estates advises sturdy shoes because its paths can be muddy and uneven; stay on the marked route where it runs near the river, as some riverside paths have steep banks. Dogs are welcome if kept under control.
