Cascade Locks Historical Museum is a three-level local-history museum in one of three lock tender’s houses built in 1905 at Cascade Locks Marine Park. It looks over the original lock and canal, built in the late 1800s, so the building sits beside the story it interprets. If you like small museums that explain how a place grew around its river, give this one about an hour.

The displays cover river locks, Indigenous history and the Oregon Pony locomotive, then widen out to Gorge railroads, fishwheels and Columbia River steamboats. Visitors also describe period rooms, model boats, antique dolls and other local artifacts spread across the house’s three levels. Founded in 1969, the museum is managed by a volunteer commission, and the collection has a distinctly local point of view.

The inside stairs are narrow and steep, so check ahead if you need a step-free route; access to every level isn’t confirmed in the information available. The museum operates seasonally, so check its current schedule before making a special trip. It’s a better fit for a slow browse through local history than a quick scenic stop.
