The Steel Information Center is Crater Lake National Park's main visitor contact station at Park Headquarters on Munson Valley Road, between Highway 62 and Rim Village. Stop for ranger advice and maps before choosing your drives; this is an orientation stop, not a lake overlook.

Inside the compact visitor room, a relief model shows the lake and caldera, with the ranger desk and a small store close by. A 37-seat auditorium screens a short park film about Crater Lake's volcanic story. The room can feel crowded when many visitors arrive at once, so use the model and film as a quick introduction.

The stone-and-wood building dates to 1932, when it served as a seasonal ranger dormitory. It is one of 18 structures in Munson Valley Historic District, listed in the National Register in 1988. Its rough-cut native-stone lower walls, steep shingled roof and dormers reflect the rustic park architecture used to fit buildings into snowy mountain settings.

Heavy snow can cover the front approach; in winter, visitors use the side snow tunnel at the building's north end. It was added in 1985–86 as the dormitory became a year-round visitor station. Ask the rangers which park roads and viewpoints are open before setting off; winter access changes across the park.

The center has public restrooms, a bottle-filling fountain, parking and a post-office window; postage and mailing service are described, but its current hours aren't posted. The shop focuses on books, maps and souvenirs, so plan meals elsewhere. Two accessible parking spaces and a drop-off area serve the building, with a ramp to the restroom corridor. The flagstone approach is uneven, and two steps sit just inside the auditorium entrance.
