Check the water and permits

The paved ramp reaches a sheltered bay, but Colter Bay is an artificial body of water and low summer levels can make the launch unusable. Check water levels before towing a boat here. Watercraft on Jackson Lake need a Grand Teton boat permit; boats entering Wyoming must meet the state's aquatic invasive species inspection and decal requirements.

Colter Bay Marina is a full-service marina and paved boat launch on a sheltered bay of Jackson Lake, inside Colter Bay Village. It's for getting out on the water: rent a kayak, canoe or small motorboat, or bring your own. The village is about 10 miles north of Moran Junction, off US 89/191/287. Rental boats are first come, with no holds and a two-hour minimum, so check availability before you build the day around one.

Kayaks, canoes and 15-foot aluminum motorboats are available to rent; the motorboats take up to six. The operator supplies life jackets and maps. From the lake, you can explore nearby bays and islands with the Teton Range around you. Visitors also praise the scenery on guided boat rides.

The marina has a store and boat fuel. Restaurants, groceries, lodging, camping, showers and laundry are part of the larger Colter Bay Village, not necessarily at the docks. The marina runs seasonally, and launch conditions depend on water levels; check the current schedule and conditions before you go.
