Overview

Hidden Falls is the park’s crowd-pleaser waterfall: a roaring, multi‑tier cascade on Cascade Creek just west of Jenny Lake. It stays true to its name—you won’t see much until you’re nearly there, and then it suddenly bursts into view. Short, rewarding, and scenic from start to finish.

What you’ll see

A powerful, roughly 100‑foot waterfall pouring over granite ledges, sending cool spray into the forested canyon.
Creekside forest, seasonal wildflowers, and glimpses toward the Teton peaks if you continue higher toward Inspiration Point.
Classic Jenny Lake scenery—clear alpine water and shoreline views if you hike the lake instead of only riding the shuttle.

Getting there

Start at the Jenny Lake area. Hike around the lake (about 4.9 miles round trip, ~620 ft gain) or shorten the outing by taking the seasonal shuttle boat across Jenny Lake and walking about a mile round trip with ~300 ft of gain.
Parking fills early near Jenny Lake; plan to arrive before mid‑morning in peak season.

Best time to visit

Go early morning to avoid the biggest crowds and snag parking; afternoons see the heaviest congestion and the longest shuttle queues back across the lake.
Late spring and early summer bring the strongest flows from snowmelt; May through October is the typical sweet spot for trail conditions.
Photographers will like softer light early or late; midday is harsh and busy.

Wildlife

Moose, deer, and a variety of birds are regularly spotted around Jenny Lake and along the approach. Black bears are occasionally seen—carry bear spray and stay alert, especially in the cooler hours of the day.

On‑site realities (what most people miss)

There are no facilities at the falls or the west shore boat dock—use restrooms at Jenny Lake before you go.
Expect congestion on the path and viewing area during peak hours; patience helps, as do early starts.
Footing turns rocky near the falls; sturdy shoes make it easier.

Make it a bigger day

Pair Hidden Falls with Inspiration Point above for wider canyon and lake views, or hike one way along the lakeshore and ride the boat the other for variety.
