It’s a 4.3–4.4 mile round trip with roughly 350–380 feet of gain, usually taking 1.5–2.5 hours depending on photo stops. The path is broad and well‑graded, making it a relaxed outing for most hikers.
The Waterfall
About 2.2 miles in, you’ll hear the creek before you see it. The falls aren’t signed, but they’re unmistakable where the trail narrows and a wooden bridge crosses the cascade. Expect a tiered, 20‑foot drop that shines after recent rain; in drier periods it’s more subdued.
History and Nature on the Way
Elkmont’s past lines this route—mossy stone gates and remnants from the area’s early 20th‑century vacation era peek through the trees. In spring, look for trillium, blue phlox, and violets along the corridor, and enjoy constant river scenery the whole way.
