Cades Cove Nature Trail

Cades Cove Nature Trail, also called the Pine Oak Nature Trail, is a roughly 0.8-mile loop from an access inside Cades Cove Campground. It is a short woodland walk with a small creek crossing, easy to fit into a day at the cove. Allow about half an hour. The mapped route, including its short approach from the campground road, measures about 0.84 mile. A separate two-mile description does not map a different route, so check the posted trail signs if the distance matters.

About 20 yards in, take the left fork to begin the circuit. The path circles through the woods and returns to that fork; turn left again for the short walk back to the trailhead. The route has some open glimpses toward the Smokies and passes several small streams. Its short distance still includes about 200 feet of climbing. At the creek crossing, use the handrail bridge; the rocks beside it can be slippery. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.

Enter Cades Cove Campground and follow Campground Segment A. After Campground Segment D branches left, continue a little farther to the nature-trail entrance on the right. The trailhead is inside the campground, but a dedicated day-use lot and its capacity are not documented. A Smokies parking tag is required for vehicles parked longer than 15 minutes. Cades Cove Loop Road is open from sunrise to sunset and is closed to vehicles on Wednesdays, typically from May through September, so plan your drive to the campground accordingly.
