Lomond Day Use Area

Lomond Day Use Area is a boat-launch access on the East Arm of Bonne Bay and the start of the Stanleyville trail. Come when you want to get out on the water or walk to the old settlement along the shore; the main experience is the outing beyond the launch.

The moderate trail runs 2 km from here to Stanleyville, a former logging town at Paynes Cove. You can also paddle 2 km along the bay shore by kayak or canoe. Look for traces of old machinery and gardens left from the settlement in the early 1900s. Stanleyville is the destination, so plan for the way back too; the 2 km is the route out from Lomond.

The launch opens onto the salt water of Bonne Bay’s East Arm, with forested shoreline and mountains around the inlet. There is a simple choice here: paddle the shore or take the moderate trail, with the same historic cove at the far end. The nearby campground has flush toilets and a kitchen shelter, but day-use access to those facilities isn’t clear; check before relying on them.
