Guide
Woody Point Lighthouse is a small, square wooden tower on the western shore of Bonne Bay, in Woody Point inside Gros Morne National Park. Its white, tapered body and red lantern roof sit close to the water, with mountains across the bay. It’s a quick exterior stop: the grounds are open, but the tower is closed to visitors.
The first lighthouse here was built in 1919. After the light was damaged by fire in 1923, the present tower was erected in 1959. Woody Point was an early center of law and commerce on Newfoundland’s west coast. Its government Bond Store was where vessels cleared customs, part of the waterfront history behind the village’s registered heritage district.
The free, self-guided Woody Point Heritage Walk starts at the lighthouse and connects five registered structures around the village; its booklet adds context as you go. The lighthouse also sits near the Bonne Bay Passenger Ferry landing. For a photo, include the bay and mountain ridge behind the red roof. That wider setting shows why this small tower belongs on the waterfront.
